What defines a great leader? Someone who can effortlessly manage a team; has an infectious passion for their work; or a relentless drive to achieve their goals? Every leader possesses a unique combination of traits like these that makes them a star.
Industry powerhouse and STX user Nick Arrojo has been at the helm of numerous brands (including his own) and mentored countless students and professionals throughout the years. Here Nick shares his top five traits for becoming a respected and admired leader in any field.
1. Have the Direction
Most people overestimate what they can achieve in one year and underestimate what they can achieve in 10. To be successful, stay consistent, and stay on the path.
2. Have the Understanding
Learn to forgive yourself and others. We all make mistakes; the trick is to learn from it, vow to never make the same mistake again, and then move on.
3. Have the Passion
Make the power of momentum your best friend. Get-up attracts go; vim attracts vigor; energy attracts energy. Momentum is the impetus that ignites and makes businesses grow.

4. Have the Drive
Action is everything. Think of Newton’s First Law of Motion: If something is in motion it is most likely to keep moving; if something is at rest, it is most likely to stay at rest. For this reason, it’s imperative to take action and to keep taking action. As Newton proved, it is the only way to keep moving.
5. Have the Knowledge
Malcom X said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” It’s very simple, if you want to be a leader in your salon, in your community, in your industry, you have to acquire the knowledge and the skills that makes others want to follow your lead.
